Firenze

We waved Assisi goodbye to make our way to Florence, via a quick stop at Siena.

Siena Main Square

Arriving in Florence, we bid a sad farewell to our Audi … and cabbed it to our B&B Quattro Poeti … which was great except for the three flights of stairs with two big full suitcases + backpack and bag.

After a friendly and comprehensive overview of the city by our B&B host Marcel we headed out into the city for two sunny warm clear days of exploring…

Florence Part 1 Thursday Afternoon

  • Leonardo Da Vinci museum
  • The Baptistry
  • The Bell Tower … all 463 steps of it …
  • Walk over the Ponte Vecchio medieval stone arch bridge to The Fountain of Neptune on the Piazza della Signoria (Signoria square), in front of the Palazzo Vecchio along with many other statues
  • Pasta for dinner then a stroll to get some pistachio ice cream

Florence Part 2 Friday

  • The Duomo Museum
  • Found an awesome 3 storey indoor enclosed slippery slide … but was too much of a scrooge to pay the 7 Euro to use it …
  • The Academia Museum with the statue of David
  • The Cathedral
  • More pasta for dinner followed by more pistachio ice cream!

Lunch was great again, the buffet table was decorated with a dragon.

After lunch we went to Moslem Street … think Cabramatta and China Town with twice as many people … the whole street lined with street vendors mostly for exotic street foods.

At the end of our 2 hour Moslem Street experience we bused it back to the Hotel then headed out for some more shopping and to check out the local restaurants.

You’d think they’d spell her name right …

We enjoyed our shopping experience … If only by reading the escalator warning signs …

Then we went looking for some dinner … duck bill anyone ?

Porto take 2

With the threat of rain today we braved the day and set out to do more sightseeing.

After a good breakfast at a cafe near the river we walked around Porto. We saw the museum, St Francis Cathedral and the catacombs.

As we had a 2 day tour bus ticket we decided to board the bus to the other side of the river. We rode the cable cars and visited the Monastery before having lunch at Cafe Grill by the riverside … so far no rain but it is a bit cold and windy.

To keep us warm from the wind we decided to go do some port wine tasting at the Quevedo cellars. ….after all … this is the home of port wine, and we had a couple of free coupons for tasting. We were entertained by a pianist and singer singing traditional Portuguese songs.
