That’s Amore

When the moon hits your eye like a big pizza pie that’s Amore…or Roma

Once checked in at Trevi BnB, just around the corner of the Trevi Fountain, we hit the streets of Rome to explore some sights..like of course, Fontana di Trevi

Then off to Scali Di Spagne. Impressive steps leading up to the Trinità dei Monti church

Then off to Vatican City via the bridge of angels to see the Basilica.

Firenze

We waved Assisi goodbye to make our way to Florence, via a quick stop at Siena.

Arriving in Florence, we bid a sad farewell to our Audi … and cabbed it to our B&B Quattro Poeti … which was great except for the three flights of stairs with two big full suitcases + backpack and bag.

After a friendly and comprehensive overview of the city by our B&B host Marcel we headed out into the city for two sunny warm clear days of exploring…

Porto take 2

With the threat of rain today we braved the day and set out to do more sightseeing.

After a good breakfast at a cafe near the river we walked around Porto. We saw the museum, St Francis Cathedral and the catacombs.

As we had a 2 day tour bus ticket we decided to board the bus to the other side of the river. We rode the cable cars and visited the Monastery before having lunch at Cafe Grill by the riverside … so far no rain but it is a bit cold and windy.

To keep us warm from the wind we decided to go do some port wine tasting at the Quevedo cellars. ….after all … this is the home of port wine, and we had a couple of free coupons for tasting. We were entertained by a pianist and singer singing traditional Portuguese songs.

Sightseeing in Santiago de Compostela

It feels weird not having to get up and out early to hike for hours …

We woke up late and after breakfast headed to the cathedral for a tour, Faiza found the experience moving. What was even more moving was that we got to see the Botafumeiro (large incense burner) swinging during the pilgrims mass that we attended, we were again very fortunate as the Botafumeiro swinging is not a common occurrence.

In keeping with Spanish tradition we had a siesta after lunch … followed by some souvenir shopping then a delicious dinner of Paella Negro (with squid ink) and Paella Mixta at a fancy Spanish Cafe.
