Meandering Around York
Started the day with a brisk walk beside the river before breakfast…
Then first stop for the day was The York Castle Museum, which had a deal on with the Yorkshire museum, ten pounds entry for both … so we did. Lunch in between the two courtesy of the York Food and Wine Festival. Then after the second museum a walk along The York City Walls ( http://www.historyofyork.org.uk/themes/the-york-city-walls ) back to where we are staying, stopping along the way at a Mr Whippy boat for an ice cream.
A haircut for me and nails done for Faiza then we headed back in town on foot to start the 8pm “Original York Ghost Tour” (well one of them, there are about four ghost tours that we saw advertisements for, one claiming to be the first, another original, etc) the ghost tour was presented by an older gentleman by the name of Ray Alexander, he spoke well with a lot of theatrical range in his voice while recanting the stories, which whilst they were intriguing were not unnerving … it wasn’t bad …
Then with the tour over at 9.30 we tried to find some food for dinner after a couple of places who had stopped serving food we managed to get to The Olive Tree where we ate the night before and downed another excellent meal.
A day in Edinburgh
Started the day off with a long walk to and through Edinburgh castle…. Interesting …
I tried to look up some men’s kilts but alas …. Found nothing!!
A walk along the royal mile was interesting and had lunch at Garfunkel restaurant. Then did some more walking and exploring through the city.
Finished the day off with a ghost tour …
We kissed the stone and we liked it!!
We kissed the stone and we liked it!! After the man spray and wiped it :)
A late start to the day…we woke up at 8.45 argg!! That’s a big no no in my books!! But we did have a late night last nite with all that River Dancing.
An hr and a bit drive from Killarney we arrived at Blarney to visit the Blarney Castle and kiss the Blarney Stone. Legend has it that if you kiss the stone you will be come eloquent in speech …. Don’t think the bloody thing worked but we did it.
After climbing (very) narrow and winding stairs to the top of the castle, we had to sit on our ass bend over backwards (lucky we practiced our dance moves last nite so we were quite flexible) and kiss the stone… No mean feat! But we kissed the stone and we liked it …. So eat your heart out Katie Perry!
After spending a few hrs walking round the castle lakes and gardens (including the poison garden), exploring caves and witches wishing steps, we had lunch at a local pub, we made our way back to Killarney for a naughty indulgence of cake and coffee…. An early night for us tonight. A totally magnificent day and the weather was perfect. We actually were in T shirts all day.
