Onwards and upwards

Probably the jet lag but I was awake from just before 4 am … finally some people started shining their torches around and packing for the days walk at about 5 am so we hopped up and started getting our things together … we were up and out before 7.30 starting our second day of the Camino.

Muscles we didn’t realize we had were aching with a vengeance but we felt positive as we headed out into the early morning … walked through Puente La Reina before we headed up a very steep incline for about 30 minutes … it was extremely challenging. Then on through a couple of small towns a couple of kilometres apart (one of which still has my hat with my kangaroo badge and sunnies … note to self: Do not leave items on vending machine … put everything down on your pack … thankfully Faiza lent me her scarf … so I get to try a new look until I can buy another hat …).

About 1.30 we arrived at a town called Villatuerta (about 4 kilometers short of Estelle) and found the Casa Magica Albergue, which is fantastic and we highly recommend it !

Clean, well laid out, great very helpful staff, washing machine and dryer, covered outside area and … hammocks ! … they also provide a dinner meal for an additional cost.

Follow the yellow scallop shells

Up and out by 8.30 …

Added a few kms to our days walk by starting with a short tour of Pamplona.

Eventually after a bit of sign language from a friendly local we found that the entire route for the Camino through the city of Pamplona is marked every ten feet or so with a metal plaque with an engraving of a scallop shell which is the symbol of the Camino.

As we were leaving the city we met a fellow Peregrino named Fernanda from Sao Paulo Brazil whom we walked part of the days journey with.

Our first day on the Camino was grueling and we had to stop often due to the 30 degree heat … we swear they added extra mountains in just for us …

Late lunch was very nice at the Restaurant/Albergue Camino Del Perdon.  We then pushed on to Obanos where at 5pm we decided to stop for the night.

Note: For any pilgrims reading this do NOT stop at the Albergue USA at Obanos there are much nicer ones just a little further …

After settling in we headed out to dinner,  walked in to the local bar where a group of fellow pilgrims kindly asked us to join their table, nice bunch of people and a decent €12 cost for a 3 course pilgrim meal with wine good company and a few laughs later we headed back to the Albergue to compete in the all night snoring competition … lol
