Last full day in Santiago de Compostela

Third day in Santiago de Compostela … third rainy day in Santiago de Compostela …

Looked like the rain was clearing so we headed out to explore … we were wrong … it rained harder … we sloshed back to our room …

Little later we tried again, headed out for a cup of tea and an irish coffee at the Catholic Hotel right next to the Cathedral … very nice … very expensive …

Ran into our Camino friend John who told us of another Compostela we could get by visiting the Church of Saint Francis so we headed down to claim it with our Pilgrims Passport in hand … as the rain began to fall again …

Early night tonight … visiting another country tomorrow …

Sightseeing in Santiago de Compostela

It feels weird not having to get up and out early to hike for hours …

We woke up late and after breakfast headed to the cathedral for a tour, Faiza found the experience moving. What was even more moving was that we got to see the Botafumeiro (large incense burner) swinging during the pilgrims mass that we attended, we were again very fortunate as the Botafumeiro swinging is not a common occurrence.

In keeping with Spanish tradition we had a siesta after lunch … followed by some souvenir shopping then a delicious dinner of Paella Negro (with squid ink) and Paella Mixta at a fancy Spanish Cafe.

Camino Day 24: Amenal to Santiago de Compostela

Up early and out starting our last days hike to Santiago by torchlight at 8 am.

Heavy fog and rain most of our days hike … our final 15 km taking us around 4 hours.

Soaked to the skin … but Faiza pushed on like a trooper and I grumbled and muttered under my breath whilst trying my best to keep up …

But we finally made it !

Compostelas in our hands …
