After our 45 minute drive (that took one and a half hours) we made it to Melawati Hill … home of the silver-leaf monkeys!
Bukit Melawati, or Melawati Hill, is a historical site that offers insights into Selangor’s history.
At the top of the hill, with views of the coastline, lies Kota Melawati, an ancient fort built by the Malacca Sultanate during the early 16th century.
Today, visitors can still see the fort’s ruins with its cannons, legendary 100-step stairway, Royal Mausoleum, Virgin’s Tomb, fabled execution slab and observatory tower (baitulhilal) built for sighting the new moon.
But Steve just wanted to go there for the monkeys …
