A 20 minutes train ride from Napoli Garabaldi station to Pompeii…got stopped by “official tourist information” person to give us a free map and buy an audio guide but when we refused to leave something behind to secure the audio guide and requested our money back… things got nasty… (We sensed this was not quite right from the beginning), so Faiza gave them a lashing and we got our money back … with no “Free” map …

It is the worlds most famous volcanic disaster when mount Vesuvius erupted in 79AD.

It would take a couple of days to see everything but we put a good few hours into it. It was a hot day and we’d had a huge day the day before but we pushed through.

Some of the original mosaic floors and statues were amazing, though we wondered how much of what we saw was original and how much was restored… it was hard to tell and informational signage was extremely rare.

In spite of our initial entry issues we loved Pompeii.
